Puppy Play Spain statement regarding the election of Mr Puppy Spain 2018

Madrid - April 26th 2018

The past 9th of March, during the event “Barcelona Spring Break” an event with the purpose of appointing a Mr Puppy Spain took place and we the community of Puppy Play Spain want to publish our positioning about the election of Mr Puppy Spain’18

Puppy Play Spain includes close to the 80% of the known Spanish puppy community, been currently the most successful attempt to create a Spanish Puppy Play community with the intention of facilitating the interaction between Pups and Handles across the country, furthermore Puppy Play Spain is the first website dedicated exclusively to Puppy Play in the Spanish language.

Ever since the project was started, we have standed for the creation of an integrating community, accepting pups and handlers of all origins, conditions... admitting and promoting the variety of points of view about Puppy Play. However, we consider the naming of Mr Puppy Spain 2018 who is supposed to be and example for the Spanish pups, doesn't really do justice to, what we consider this kind of event should be like.

Firstly, we want show our disagreement in regards of the organization of the event and its connection with the pup community, not only with Puppy Play Spain but in the whole of pups and handlers habitating all our national territories. This contest, organised by The Spanish Leather and Fetish Community (SLFC) nor was sufficiently advertised neither was it able to be known by the community in time, been only advertised via Facebook and Twitter but not in any Puppy Play dedicated platform that could have eased its diffusion. Moreover the fact that this community wasn't counted on to advertise said event or to have any kind of representation on it.

On the same line, we consider that the event, far from seeking the promotion and visibility of Puppy Play on the eyes of the public, was only performed with the interest of the event in which it was celebrated this one been Barcelona Spring Break

What this contest has show in its practically nonexistent advertisement was basically the aesthetics and the masculine part of the pup scene, basically relegating it to a simple complement of the BDSM and Leather communities. Puppy Play has notoriously evolved since 2001 when the first puppy hoods appeared in the market and their massive distribution started, giving puppy play its own identity signs further from the aesthetics linked to the BDSM scene.

We don't stop looking to other international realities of the pup community, as well as other similar events like for example Mr Puppy Europe. Undoubtedly it had a much bigger advertisement campaign and it got backup from many important sectors of the community, whilst in the case of Mr Puppy Spain choice didn't count on the community its supposed to represent.

Having said that, we refuse to accept the officiality of the result, at a national level as its possible representatives at an international level. possibly in the next instalment of Mr Puppy Europe, given that, the winner ot the Mr Puppy Spain contest (and only participant of the competition) was the model used in its promotion. We (as the community of Puppy Play Spain) doubt the suitability of the election for the participant has had no implication with the community at a national or an international level, for he is completely uninvolved with us.

Besides, the first Miss Puppy has been crowned the past year (Miss Puppy UK to be precise). We lament that here in Spain that example hasn't been followed, we consider that a Miss Puppy Spain should be chosen at the same event as Mr Puppy Spain.

We don't consider that proclaiming a standard bearer at this early and crucial moments of the creation of the community is a move that should be taken in such unpremeditated manner. Therefore the title of Mr Puppy (at least in Spain´s case) carries a lot of meaning for it should be one of the pillars of the spreading of Pup play in our country.

We don't think that the spanish community is big enough to prioritise this kind of events, and munches and moshes should be celebrated first in order to spread the community and help it to grow for currently here in Spain most of the pups are looking for others to share experiences and explore their pup side.

As a summary we want our disagreement to be heard for the circumstances in which this election took place given its lack of objectiveness and the lack of interest that the organisers have shown to the pups and handlers residing in Spain. And the economical interest that it represents.

For all the reasons listed above we do not approve of this election and therefore we are not represented in any way by the holder of this title, at a national as well as an international level.
